Senghenydd 0 v 17 Penallta Youth
(Half Time 0 v 12)

PENALLTA SEND THE SAINTS MARCHING.

Penallta Youth started strong in today's Caerphilly District Cup game against home side Senghenydd and applied pressure from the kick off but the Saints' defence held up well for the first 10 minutes. Flanker Tom Andrews, recently signed from Senghenydd, turned an opportunist run into a converted try to put Penallta 7 nil ahead and looking to score more.
With the game starting with uncontested scrums, the Youth looked likely to score every time they had the ball, but some spirited defence by "Sneggy" and poor handling on the part of Pen's wingers it was another 10 minutes before winger Dan Brittan crossed the try line to take the Youth into the break 12 nil ahead.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with the Blue and Golds applying pressure but unable to score more points.  The coaches had made 4 changes - backs Nathan Mahoney and Scott Edwards (the later for another recent signing from Senghenydd) and scrum half Aaron Evans, who played with true Penallta passion. The two forwards who came on, Liam Jay and Craig Bourne, both had strong games with "Bournie" leading a strong drive by the seemingly tireless forwards to touch down for his first try for Penallta only for the Ref to disallow it due to some indiscipline by  Luke Purnell.  Luke - apart from this lapse in control - drove his team onward like the true captain he has become.
Centre Dale Jones had one of his best games in a Penallta shirt ending one of his many hard driving runs by crossing the whitewash to put Penallta 17 nil at the final whistle.  Dale shared the man of the match award with Tom Andrews.
Next week Penallta travel to Abertillery/Blaenau Gwent to play in a league game against a side they defeated 3 times last season so expect the sparks to fly.
