Energy Drinks We
have to bring to your attention that a number of the boys are using a banned
sports stimulant (caffeine) before playing matches. This is found in a number
of ‘energy’ drinks such as Red Bull, Boost and many others; this is having an
effect on some of the players that is not enhancing their playing abilities. The coaching
team have had a meeting regarding this issue and would appreciate it if all
parents could help us by not providing the boys with drinks that contain
caffeine, have a look at the label it tells you what is in there. There are
many sports drinks available in the shops, all that contain sugars and salts
that will replace those lost during the match and give the boys the boost they
need without the nasty side effects of these caffeine based drinks. If you want
some information on the side effects of the caffeine drinks they are in the
next news letter but just to let you know Red Bull is banned in Norway, Denmark
and Iceland and other countries have rules on its sale to young people. We have
a responsibility for the boys and on health grounds we will not allow boys to
play who are seen to be under the effect of these caffeine based drinks. I hope you
all agree with this and understand our concerns regarding this issue. Many thanks
in your help and support regarding this situation. Coaching and
